And, there’s a path to build a future here, whether you advance your skills through our countless continuing education opportunities—from RECOVER CPR training to training to handle exotics—or in a leadership role. the nursing career path
Are you in it for the cool cases? A born leader, ready to make a difference at our hospitals? Interested in using your nursing skills and experience to mentor others? No matter which one you are, there’s a career path waiting at VEG!
the clinical path
The clinical path at VEG focuses on advancing your skills on the floor, seeing the coolest and most interesting cases, and working to give patients the emergency care they need. Do things you won’t do anywhere else—from unblocking a cat, to performing a sonogram, to running abdominal and thoracic FAST exams. Whether you’re an assistant just starting out, an experienced and credentialed veterinary technician, or a Veterinary Technician Specialist, you can take your nursing skills and career path to the next level through training and mentorship.
the leadership path
If you have ER nursing experience, you’re ready to take the leadership path at VEG. Nurses in leadership positions—including shift leads, nursing managers, and regional nursing directors—do everything from guiding our nurses to give patients the best care, to overseeing hospital operations, to acting as a voice for the nursing team. They understand the flow of the hospital and make decisions to ensure things run smoothly and efficiently.
the education path
The Education Path is for credentialed nurses who want to use their skills and experience to mentor others. Called nursing trainers, these educators are practicing nurses at VEG who take dedicated time to train others on the floor. They provide hands-on guidance on cases and identify resources that can help people grow in their roles at VEG.
advocate for change
VEG nursing council
Not only are we transforming nursing at VEG, but we’re also working to support and advocate for the industry as a whole and create discussion and debate around the future of veterinary nursing. We do this through the VEG Nursing Council, a passionate group of VEGgies who act as a voice for veterinary nurses and leaders working to create action for change in the field.
The Council makes recommendations on a range of topics, including nursing quality, nursing guidelines, advocacy, and leadership. It also brings awareness to the issues nurses and assistants are most concerned about—from pay and work environment to growth opportunities and career recognition— in an effort to bring innovation and advancement to the profession.
